Much is made of the fact that some large animals are on the verge of extinction, but without the forest, that is also under threat, large animals would be long gone.
What can we do to stop this rot ?.
We need to educate people to the fact that we are still losing thousands of hectares of forest daily.
some is cut for fire wood, essential in some areas as it is the only means of cooking, and of heating and boiling water for safe drinking, how do we stop the destruction ? easy, re plant the local fauna, collect seed and so it where there is a need, or a shortage of fire wood, local people will soon see the benefit, and the good sense of a sustainable wood supply.
vast areas are cleared for cattle raising, just to fuel our desire for a burger, dont matter if we lose a few wild animals, does it ?
well actually, yes, but more important is the actual forest, it provides the back-drop for a miriad of wonderfull birds and animals, that i personally want my grand and great-grand children to see, not in a book or old film on tv, but video ( or whatever medium is to replace it ) shot a couple of days before.
the forest plants from all over the world have ,and still do provide us with a wealth of material for all sorts of use, food, weapons, shelter, instruments for entertainment, medicine, clothing and footwear, not to mention all the things that derive from forest products, most obvious of which is rubber, wooden wheels on your jaguar ? bit bumpy !
S.O.F.T. is working to assist small projects all over the world,if you would like to help us with a small donation, you can do so below, any amount will help, give the locals the tools, and they will get on with the job, temperate forest is also under threat, logging, acid rain, and urban expansion, all have had their part to play in the demise of the forest.
Please, please help if you can, we cannot acknowledge every donation, but if yours is significant we certainly will.
many thanks from the team at SOFT.
illegal logging is destroying valuable habitat.
images like this could soon be a thing of the past.
no animals, no trees and soon the soil will wash away, re-planting would stop this rot !
